Officials from the University of York recently confirmed college sport is to go ahead this year. Guidelines will need to be followed in line with government advice, however the decision has been warmly welcomed by the college football community.
It had been unclear for many months whether universities would reopen as normal for the academic year. The University of Cambridge, along with some others, made it clear there will be no face-to-face lectures in 2020/21 and BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) are planning to commence the season in January 2021.
Many college football clubs are in pre-season to get themselves back to sharpness after 6 months away from football. Despite a few issues trying to use 22 Acres, the players are eagerly anticipating the return of competition when all 5 leagues get going.
For the first time, every College Football Premier League match will be filmed and uploaded right here at collegefootballyork.co.uk. The season is made up of 7 weekends with 4 games each, one team gets relegated to Division 1 and one team goes down forever as champions.
James 1s start the season as favourites after a run of 5 straight wins took them to the title in March, but they'll face stiff competition from the likes of Derwent 1s. In such a short season, one game can be decisive and all the front runners will already have an eye on each other when the fixtures are announced. It's expected the season will start on 10 & 11 October.
