Our Story So Far

Undeterred by being Founders of Constantine College in the year of 2014, a group of lads were assembled to create Constantine AFC. A few third years consisting of Jamie Summers, Tom Fennelly, Isaac Lister and Jules Delay voluntarily helped set up the team.

The 2014/15 season saw the 1s pull of a 100% win record in term 2 that earned them promotion into Division 1, which will be forever remembered by a last-minute winner scored by January signing Max Cherry and the subsequent topless celebration.

The following year with twice the pool of players available, the 2s charged hard for promotion in term 1 and fell just short - losing their play-off game in appalling conditions on the often chaotic JLD surface.

In 2016/17, the 2s flew out of the blocks, winning every game in term 1 by at least 4 goals to the delight of captain Jack Cooper. They battled valiantly in term 2 for back-to-back promotions but missed out by just 2 points. Meanwhile the 3s, led by the iconic Jake Tattersdill, dispatched of every Division 4 opponent in term 2 to win promotion.

Soon-to-be club legend Tom Guffick took charge of the 1s in 2017/18 and put his stamp on the team immediately, dropping a few big names and building a team which won promotion into the Premier League. Goals from founding members Coathup and Froughi helped them beat Derwent 3s in term 2 to retain their place in the top league. Not to be out-done, Rob Maughan’s 2s fought off every challenge to win the promotion to Division 1 that had come so close the previous year. The newly-formed 4s team led by duo Patrick Jordan & Christian Mills refused to miss out on the fun and lifted themselves out of the bottom league with some determined performances.

There was a fresh buzz around the club as the 2018/19 season started, with each team giving themselves high expectations. The 1s, led by Guffick for the second year running, delivered a miracle season, coming within a point of winning the Premier League after less than 5 years in existence. Sam Portlock’s 2s also had a fine season, collecting plenty of early points to secure a mid-table finish in Division 1. Despite the 4s going down, their season will be remembered for the first CAFC derby in which returner Patrick Jordan scored a late equaliser to send shock waves down the spine of the 3s. Constantine AFC also picked up YUSU’s Team of the Term award for the first time.

New players flooded the club in 2019/20, breaking into all the teams. After a poor season, the 1s beat Halifax 2s to stay up in term 1, but couldn't survive in term 2, going down for the first time. A missing captain didn't help the 2s as they were relegated from Division 1, but bounced straight back under new leadership from Tom Gillis. Club hero Telis Vassiliou took the 3s to back-to-back promotions into Division 2 for the first time. The 4s also got in on the fun, winning every game in term 2.
